New features to Google+, ignoring users
We are happy that Google+ has added block and ignore features, but are disappointed it was not part of the original launch. As with any social network, some individuals clog your entire stream with junk updates (or posts 40 MLS listings in a row).
Sometimes you don’t want to be rude and you simply don’t want to see the updates, but don’t want them to know you are annoyed.
“Ignoring someone is basically saying you’re just not interested,” said Olga Wichrowska at Google. “Maybe you don’t know them, or maybe you don’t want to see what they’re sharing.”
Ignoring will remove the user’s posts from your incoming stream, you will no longer receive notifications of their activity and they will no longer appear in your Circles page- all without them knowing.
Blocking on Google+
Ignoring is a polite brush off, but still allows them to see your activity. Blocking not only removes another user’s post from your stream, but removes them from your circles and disallows them from seeing your updates.
Since the day the site went into beta, we have been using it and have been disappointed at how long these privacy features have taken. Many of our personal accounts are randomly tagged in spam posts, or have incoming streams filled with content that isn’t in English or is endless noise with questionable links.
Alas, now, Google+ is offering ignore and block features and they are now live for all users as pictured above.
