Sony announces Android tablets, proclaim quality over quantity

Sony tablets to hit the market this fall

For a long time, Apple has had a target placed squarely on its back as various manufacturers aim to beat out products like the iPad as they sprout competitors. Several manufacturers are releasing dozens of products, hoping something from their lineup has the staying power of the iPad tablet.

Enter Sony who is seeking to be that high end competitor who loudly and proudly says they will not focus on quantity, rather will intensely focus on quality as they launch their Sony S and Sony P tablets. They have practiced this principle in the smartphone arena with their Xperia PLAY for gamers which has gone over extremely well… the hope is duplicating this success with their tablets.

Sony S Tablet

Sony’s first Android tablets tout some pretty impressive specs with the 9.4 inch display on the S that runs Honeycomb and of course has integrated Sony TruBlack display technology and Bravia technologies like in their televisions.

The S has a super fast Tegra 2 processor, supports wi-fi, 4G and Bluetooth. This tablet is offered in the 16GB size as well as in a 32GB size and has a full-sized SD memory card reader built in. The S tablet connects with the PlayStation 3 and Bravia TVs and can even act as a control for both. The S is priced at $599.

Sony P Tablet

The inside of the Sony P is reportedly the same as the Sony S, but is a different spin on a tablet, offering a dual-screen “clamshell” design with two five inch displays. The screens can work independent of each other or one can be used as a keyboard for the other. The P is reportedly priced at $499.

Delivery is set for these two tablets around the end of September, pre-sales will begin soon.
