Statistics that will drive marketing in 2014

Marketing in 2014

With just a little over a month left in 2013, it is time to start thinking about what is to come for 2014. Planning the yearly budget is well underway for 2014 and according to an infographic from WebDAM, marketers are planning to spend their money a bit differently.

The WebDAM infographic looks at what you can expect in 2014; specifically, at the marketing trends of the New Year and what to consider for your digital audience. Here are a few that stood out the most:

1. Social sharing in email is critical

“Email with social sharing will boost click-through raters more than 150 percent.”

This seems completely logical to me. When you receive an email from a new business, you are more likely to click through if they have a Facebook. Twitter, Pinterest, or other social media account linked because it allows you to go find more information on the business before you decide whether or not to use them. Also, social sharing is an easy way to engage people with your product. By keeping your social media streams up to date, you are keeping your customers engaged with your product.

2. Social media budgets

“Social media marketing budgets will double over the next five years.”

Again, given the fact that email with social media sharing aid in getting potential customers to click through, it is not surprising that the social media marketing budget will expand. If you are thinking about expanding your social media campaigns, there are a number of ways you can simplify this, for example, use IFTTT to automate processes that can be time consuming and frustrating. There are recipes to save photos, transfer link posting between Facebook and Twitter, Tweet your Facebook status updates, and save a timeline of statuses to your Google Calendar. We have featured several of these because they are wonderful timesavers, but they can also stretch your budget by letting you cross-post automatically.

3. Pay per click advertising

“Pay per click budgets will increase more than 70 percent.”

As more and more businesses are looking for the all important click through, it is not surprising this budget will expand as well. I believe the biggest part of this expansion will be through the social media channels already discussed.

4. The Facebook effect

“More than 50% of all marketers have found a customer on Facebook.”

Facebook is still one of the first platforms people think of when they think “social media.” And with more than half of all marketers finding a customer on Facebook, it is important to ensure you are making some type of marketing effort in this channel. It can be as simple as creating a Facebook page and regularly posting updates and images of new products. And, IFTTT can automate image postings, as well as many other Facebook related marketing tools.
