Suck less at Pinterest with these helpful tips

You can improve your Pinterest presence

So you’ve got a Pinterest account. Or you’re thinking of making a Pinterest account. (If you’re not in one of those two categories, get with the program.) This ain’t your grandma’s social media anymore – Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are the most recognizable, but Pinterest has earned its stripes. And I’m here to tell you some quick do’s and maybe a don’t or two to help you take your social media marketing game to the next level.

You might have heard that Pinterest is a ladies’ sport. This is partially correct, since a four out of every five users is female. However, don’t hang the guys out to dry! The male user demographic has doubled in the past year.

Don’t make these rookie mistakes

Some of the most popular categories, as you might have noticed, are home décor, fashion, food, and crafts. A rookie mistake would be to try to associate with these boards just because they experience traffic.

Don’t pin a tattoo of a dragon to a food board. Not only does it not make any sense whatsoever, but the people browsing that board will surely scroll right past it without paying it any attention. It’s important to post in relevant boards, so keep things in the same general family of topics to ensure your content will reach its desired audience.

Planning, posting, and pinning

Are you posting pictures? Good. Make sure they’re high resolution. Generally, images with light colors have a tremendously high repin rate when compared to darker ones. And if you’re unsure about including the model’s face in your photo showcasing your clothing line’s new dress, odds are that cropping it out will result in a higher share rate.

Also, when planning posts, check the clock. Posts made in the early afternoon and past 8 at night are sure to get a bit of a head start on other posts. The sweet spot is Saturday morning, according to HubSpot. We trust them. Why would they lie? Distracting someone from Saturday morning cartoons is serious business.

The best tip of all

Lastly, you should definitely link all of your social media sites to one another. Your Pinterest page should have a link to your Twitter, and your Instagram page should have a link to your Facebook. But you already knew that. You’re a social media guru. Now get out there and kick some tail.
