Today’s top ways to screw up a job interview

How to nail a job interview

The best way to nail a job interview is to not commit some of the most commonly committed sins. Although it seems supremely competitive in the job market today, you’d be surprised how easy it is for even the most polished of candidates to screw up.

In fact, the most grave sin of all is dwelling too much on your last job – your potential new employer shouldn’t have the impression right off the bat that you’ll trash talk them when you leave. Make sense, right?

There’s more to it than just avoiding bad mouthing your previous employer, as the Undercover Recruiter points out, adding that you should stay alert, mind your posture, and maintain eye contact with the interviewer.

“Tempting as it may be to wear your new gloss-white tracksuit, don’t turn up to your interview casual,” the Undercover Recruiter adds. “You don’t need to go overboard, but dress to impress. Smart casual wins everything forever.”

Further, there is a perfect balance between talking and listening, and you want to convey that you’re able to work with the interviewer, not just blast them with your rehearsed list of accomplishments.

Keep enthusiastic and positive about the job. Don’t use your phone in an interview. Ever.

Employers are interviewing because they want you, so don’t give them a reason to not want you before you even get a chance to get past that blasted first round of interviews. While some of this may be common sense, there are always ways for even the most polished candidate to improve.
