Twitter finally beta tests a feature we’ve been begging for

For years, we’ve been asking for minimal features that allow users to filter through and understand their connection management better and finally, Twitter is beta testing a “who you have in common” feature allowing users to see who you and another user have in common. There are third party apps that offer this feature, but it is quite an effort to take an extra step to give some context to your connections.

Why is this feature such a big deal to us? This feature is currently offered by Facebook and one that we use to filter out friend requests. Seeing who you have in common with someone that is connecting with you gives you context to who they are rather than having to spend the time investigating. It instantly gives you a reason to connect or not to connect with another user.

The mutual follow feature is currently being beta tested, so not all users can see it, but I most look forward to it being rolled out as an official feature and hopefully offered as part of their API so that Twitter applications may integrate it into their offering. There is no word on when the beta period will end so that all users will see the feature when they go to Twitter.com, but Twitter has a relatively quick turnaround time between beta to release, so we believe it will be soon (fingers crossed!).
