Verizon reveals new 4G tablets, smartphones, notebooks & MiFi

Verizon, America’s largest 4G LTE wireless network announced today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that not only do they expect to double their network size in the next year and a half, but by this time in 2014, they will provide 4G coverage across all states. Also announced at CES were ten new devices that will run on the Verizon network, some as early as March.

Marni Walden, VP and CMO of Verizon Wireless, said, “For consumers, our 4G LTE network isn’t about simply doing things faster. It’s about doing things we couldn’t do before. In the consumer electronics arena, it’s not just about devices. It’s about those powerful devices with deeply integrated applications and how our 4G LTE network truly transforms the wireless experience with rich multimedia and real-time response intervals.”

The ten new technologies revealed today:

The HTC Thunderbold is exclusive to Verizon and runs on HTC Sense 2.0, offers Skype mobile, a 4.3″ display, Dolby surround sound (WOW!), 8-megapixel camera with HD video recording and a 1GHz processor.

The LG Revolution runs on Android 2.2, also has a 4.3″ screen and streams/plays/records in HD, functions as a wifi hotspot and has a front-facing camera.

The DROID Bionic 4G is one of the more impressive smartphone announcements we’ve seen out of endless CES announcements. It runs on Android with Adobe Flash and HTML5, a 4.3″ display, HDMI connections, HD record/play/stream support, dual-core 1GHz processor and is supposed to be among the fastest phones on the 2011 market.

The Samsung 4G LTE Smartphone stands apart because of its AMOLED Plus touch screen display, HTML5 browser, super fast 1GHz processor (noticing a theme?) with LED flash and 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat capabilities.

We already talked about the exciting Motorola Xoom, the new tablet that runs the Android Honeycomb operating system- this 10.1″ HD tablet, a 5-megapixel camera to capture video in 720P HD, mobile wifi hotspot capability and more.

The 4G LTE-enabled Samsung Galaxy Tab, although announced in 2010 is a 7″ high resolution tablet that will rund on Android 2.2 and support Flash. It has rear and front facing cameras for video chat capability.

Also announced today as part of the Verizon network:

  • The Novatel MiFi 4510L Intelligent Mobile Hotspot which is one of the smallest hotspots on the market on the 4G network. It can support up to five wifi devices.
  • The Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot – this dual-mode device works as a wifi spot for up to five devices as well.
  • The Compaq CQ10-688nr has a 10.1″ anti-glare widescreen LED display, Intel Atom N455 processor, webcam and offers 8.5 hours of battery life on the stock battery.
  • The HP Pavilion dm1-3010nr is a little bigger at 11.6″ and HD 1080p (seriously? WOAH), nearly 11 hours of battery life, 320 GB of storage, HDMI port, Dolby Audio and more.

With Verizon pulling together so many cutting edge technologies along with their carrying of the iPhone soon, it will be interesting to watch how prices for services change. Pricing at Sprint has increased over the past 24 months, will Verizon rise as well? Would you change your provider based on a device or do you choose your device based on the offering of your existing carrier?
