What is digital postal mail and can it really replace print?

Really going paperless

We hear all the time about ways businesses are going paperless, and it typically centers around the contract process and reducing printing inside your office, but then the mail person shows up and plops a handful of bills and papers on your receptionist’s desk, pointing out that we’re all going paperless while ignoring this major oversight.

Enter Zumbox, a Digital Postal Mail service that helps businesses and the USPS to send items electronically while helping consumers receive paperless documents online. The service aggregates all mail sent for access at one online site, and they say it is free forever, adding that it is a service meant as an alternative to post offices, not a USPS killer.

Zumbox works with the existing ecosystem, meaning that mail is not scraped from a website or sent to someone that should not get it – it is diverted right from the start of its life and is securely sent only to the intended recipient. The goal is to bring bills from Capital One, your bank statements, your water bill, or Discover bill to one location rather than having to go to each to look up and pay bills, which Zumbox does by partnering with businesses to incorporate this “digital channel” into a business’ workflow to save steps, time, and paper.

Digital mail technology

Zumbox is a web based app that is also available for iPhone and iTunes, allowing professionals to see and pay their expenses online on the go, making a paperless workplace more realistic, so yes, for many functions, it really can replace print as businesses and consumers opt out of print billing and move online to a single sign in spot, streamlining the entire process.

The company says their iPad app features intuitive navigation tabs that make for simple online filing of important statements and organization. Filing options include date, sender, pre-set notifications, read status and even personalized notes.

In a statement, the company said, “Digital Postal Mail, by Zumbox, is an exact facsimile of paper mail, created as a digital version, before it reaches a large mailing system. Zumbox archives and sends mail in a secure, central, online environment, instead of on paper. Zumbox has created a digital mailbox for every street address in the United States for the secure, on-time delivery of postal mail online.”
