Why should your smartphone or tablet be HDMI compatible?

This year, dozens of new smartphones and tablets are hitting the market that are faster, brighter and smarter than ever. They boast impressive stats and functions like front and rear cameras for high def video conferencing and many can record HD video for hours on end.

One piece that is missing in many phones coming to market is High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI ) compatibility. There are many ways to display your smartphone on to your television screen but many of the solutions given do not produce high definition results.

Think about it- your new smartphone can film, photograph and video conference in high definition, 1080p in many cases, and many new phones and tablets coming out produce 65 million colors on the screen, but when you plug in a standard converter, you see a low def image on your tv screen.

HDMI is not the only way to produce high def results from your phone or tablet to your television, but is one of the simplest, least expensive ways, requiring only one cord (ours cost around $20 at Best Buy).

Why do I want my phone on my tv anyhow?

If you want to show a client a video from your phone of a home tour or a PDF from your phone to their tv (the cord is in your bag anyway) or maybe you want to show a virtual tour on a larger screen that will impress a listing client, this is a good way to do so.

So when you’re shopping for your next phone and you’re overwhelmed by the zillions of specifications on them, HDMI compatibility is a good one. Not mandatory because there are other ways to achieve similar results, but this is such a simple, inexpensive way.
