Business cards just got smarter
Business cards have long been hailed as the most important networking tool any business owner can have. They’re portable, easy to pass out, and everyone understands their purpose. Businesses cards should express individuality and showcase just what your business can do for customers, but what if you meet someone virtually?
You can’t very well hand them a business card through the computer, can you? In our social media-centric business world, you absolutely can.
Your paper business card likely contains your contact information, web address, and social media links, but what if you do not want to share all these details with a new client? You cannot very well pick and choose what you share on a paper business card, but this isn’t true with the new app IID app.
IID allows you to load all of your contact information and then select exactly what details you want to share for each client. Basically, you log in to the IID app, add your information and the app creates a virtual business card each time you choose to share your selected information with someone else.
The difference is that the recipient isn’t required to have the IID app
The person receiving the information does not have to have IID installed for it to work. Instead, they will receive a link where they can download your selected information. The IID virtual business card is vCard ready and your recipient can download your information into their contacts in just a few taps. Currently, IID is only available for iOS users, but an Andriod app is in the works.
I really like the idea of being able to pick and choose what I share and with whom. However, I would want to see their privacy policy first, as it is not yet explicitly stated on their web site.
They do state that the data is “highly secured,” but I am more interested in how it will be used. Also, there are several other programs that allow you to create vCards with any information you select. So while IID is a great tool, especially for freelancers and businesses that do most of their networking online, you may want to wait just a bit before you jump on board.
