I have been going over all my profiles on-ine, from my websites, to blog, to Linkedin and Facebook and realized I had forgotten an important marketing principle . . . my elevator speech. What is an elevator speech? Here is the definition from Wikipedia, but basically it is what your do for business and you should be able to communicate it simply in the time it takes to take an elevator ride . . .
I was reminded because of meeting an amazing person, Terri Murphy. I had a chance to meet her recently at a Women’s CEO retreat (AFIRE) and we had a follow up conversation. I am her newest fan! She is involved with putting some of her content on line for businesses who need short valuable content for their companies. I watched a video of her speaking about your elevator speech and it dawned on me. I have not transferred that valuable marketing tool . . . online. So now I am going back and revisiting all my sites to fix this. What Terri said was simple but powerful (Watch it here) . . . Step number one, take out a piece of paper and . . .
Write down every service your provide your customer
Think how you save them time, money and make the process easier.
Brainstorm why people choose to do business with you
List what makes customers want to work with you
Write it down in such a way to encourage more conversation.
(Instead of saying “I sell real estate, you might say i specialize in helping people make the most with their money when they list or sell property)
Step Four is break the statement down, and tell how the customer drives the benefits from you.
Write out your elevator speech, it must become part of you.
Then, make sure you put it everywhere, on Facebook, in your email signature, on you marketing and be ready to let it roll off your tongue the next time you meet someone IRL (in real life, in person, face to face) or even in an elevator!
