We’ve just released the date of our next Big Ass Social Happy Hour, and we’re really excited to see you in September!
Whether you’ve been to a BASHH before, or this will be your first one, we want to share with you how you’re going to absolutely nail it. And by nail it, we mean walk away with meaningful connections that last for the next several chapters of your career.
Doesn’t that sound amazing? And also improbable?
It’s not, it’s actually extremely easy. I would argue that its actually easier than traditional networking where you walk up to a stranger and say “so what do you do?” as you hand them your card and wait for them to stop talking about how they’re a ninja maven unicorn long enough that you can get in your perfectly polished pitch.
Here’s what you do: Give. Take nothing.
Hold on, hear me out. What I want you to try is at ONE event, just go with the goal of trying to be helpful to people. Ask what’s occupying their mind this week, or if they’re working on anything cool over the weekend, or if there are any challenges they’re finding themselves facing.
You may not be able to help, but you can offer to boost signal on anything they’re working on or ask YOUR network for their advice (with their blessing, of course).
This method of making it all about other people (sure, they know you’re a [insert your job title here], but truly focusing on them) is a simple way to make sincere connections, and what’s cool is that you’ll find yourself connecting others – if Person A says they’re focused on finding a supply chain role, and you meet Person B who is an Amazon recruiter, well you know what to do.
Don’t practice your pitch in the mirror, don’t worry about what you need to extract from people, simply go and focus on others – I promise people will remember you much more readily for THIS than for your paper cutting them with the business card you prematurely shove into their hand.
Join fellow tech enthusiasts for an evening of relaxed conversations, connections, and good vibes. Whether you’re a developer, designer, entrepreneur, or tech aficionado, this is the perfect opportunity to unwind, share ideas, and expand your network.
