Top 10 scams

You’ve heard of the spectrum of scams ranging from major mortgage straw buyer schemes to the Nigerian Prince emails soliciting money. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) studied the top scams of 2010 based on inquiries, complaints and complaints settled over the last year.

The BBB notes that one of the top 10 scams is the “rogue home repair/roofers” which charges an up front fee, claiming they can do repairs at a lower cost than competitors, with victims being out the money from unfinished or never started repairs.

The anatomy of how a scam works below is also of note for anyone using the internet, as scams typically work because they look legitimate.

Bonus: web geeks should note the use of web culture references by a traditional company like BBB.
