The “scattered” trap
Most people approaching a career pivot make the same mistake – they try to out-hustle the market by applying to everything. They cast a massive net, hoping for a bite, but instead, they just end up exhausted, burnt out, and drowning in imposter syndrome. It’s what we were taught to do – hit the pavement, try harder, apply more. And the advice is outdated.
That was the case for one of our recent clients – a high-performing Customer Service and Support professional who knew they had more to give but felt stuck. They were eager to break into HR and Recruiting, but without a traditional background, their “net” was gathering nothing but silence.
The “aha” moment: Extraction over rewriting
When this client sat down for a consultation with Staci Kae Brookover, the first shift wasn’t about the resume, it was about branding.
He viewed his greatest strength as being a “servant leader” (someone who does whatever is needed). In many roles, that’s a plus. In Recruiting, it’s too vague.
Staci helped him “extract” the real value – his ability to keep people, processes, and tools in order and moving forward.
The lesson: An AI scanner can’t see your potential, it only sees your past. A human strategist sees your transferable assets.
The “anti-AI” advantage
If you asked an AI for pivot advice, it would tell you to “optimize keywords”. Staci’s advice was the opposite. She told him: “Your ambition to make this career pivot is contagious and your biggest asset.”
She didn’t just give him a plan, she built what he called “structured confidence.” She provided a space to be honest about the burnout and the bad days, creating accountability that kept him moving even when he wanted to step away.
The result: All of the above
By moving from “applying to everything” to “applying with intention,” his search became smaller but infinitely more effective.
Within just two months of engaging with Staci and the team, he achieved:
- A new industry: Successfully transitioned into HR/Recruiting.
- Higher pay & better benefits: Landed a role that exceeded his previous compensation.
- Reduced stress: He moved from being “confident but scattered” to “focused, strategic, and purposeful.”
Stop guessing.
Start moving with intention and confidence.
As our client put it, “Before, I was confident, but scattered. Now, I’m confident and strategic. I’m not second-guessing myself after every interview”.
If you have big goals but need the structure and a pro in your corner to keep you aligned, don’t wait until you’re burnt out to ask for help.
