According to President Obama, the emergency meeting was “frank and constructive” but the two sides have failed to reach a compromise.
“I remain confident that we will be able to complete a deal,” Obama said after emerging from the emergency late night meeting at the White House. “But it’s going to require a sufficient sense of urgency from those involved that a government shutdown has real consequences for real people.”
Reading between the lines
“We do have some differences, but I do think we made some progress,” Says Boehner. “I want to reiterate that there’s no agreement on the numbers. There’s no agreement on the policy riders.”
“I have confidence that we can get this done,” Says Reid. “We’re not there yet. But hope lies eternal.”
Reading between the lines, I’m betting on a shut down. Unfortunately, Reid’s statement is loaded.
