If this, then that

Technology continues to get smarter and smarter. Simply by owning a smartphone your world is more connected than ever before thanks to IFTTT.com. The San Francisco-based company has been around awhile but continues to streamline your day-to-day activities, making the statement “work smarter, not harder” ring particularly true.

Action and reaction

The acronym IFTTT stands for “if this then that” and the website in its name holds hundreds of recipes to help you simply your life, by automating when certain actions are taken. The if-then statements of IFTTT are made up of triggers (the “ifs”) and actions (the “thens”) to create powerful connections between products and apps. Want your heat to kick on if the temperature drops below 50 degrees? Want a notification with the final score of games played by your favorite sports team? Want to automatically share all your Instagram photos on Flickr? With IFTTT.com these automations are only the beginning.

On the IFTTT site there are different sections of recipes for all your favorite apps including eBay, the New York Times, and ESPN.

Highlighted below are a few favorite automations that will make even the most disorganized entrepreneur seem more together.

High priority emails

Don’t miss another email from your CEO, a big spending advertiser, or important client. Connect your Office 365 Mail to get an iPhone notification when a message marked “high priority” comes through. Find it here.

Follow up with new leads

Meet a prospective new customer at a conference? Want to remind yourself to follow up on a potential partnership? Every time you add a new contact, have a new follow up created for a week later in your Office 365 calendar. Find it here.

Archive email attachments

Don’t let contracts, quotes, and invoices get lost in your email stream. Connect your Gmail to your OneDrive Channel and automatically archive all incoming attachments. Find it here.

Work on the go

Sometimes inspiration comes when you’re away from your desk or at all hours of the night. Capture those good ideas, quotes, and photos via iPhone screenshots that are saved to OneNote. Find it here.

Or find your own faves

There are a number of channels that can be connected, simply by using your smartphone. Search for specific recipes, browse through the extensive library, or design your own connections to streamline your workflow on IFTTT.com.
