National Open House Week
The National Association of Realtors (NAR) has partnered with over 300 associations nationally and 59 countries across the globe for the 2011 Realtor Nationwide Open House this weekend, June 4th and 5th,
“making this a truly global open house weekend and bringing buyers and sellers together.”
National Homeownership Month
June also marks National Homeownership Month, kicked off today by several organizations including the USDA and NAHB.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack kicked off National Homeownership Month and emphasized the role housing has in job creation, with their theme being “Rural Housing / Rural Jobs” as homeownership keeps rural areas viable. According to the USDA Rural Development agency, they have financed over 80,000 rural home loans.
“Housing drives rural economies and supports healthy rural communities,” Vilsack said. “About 50 million Americans call rural areas home, and safe, sanitary housing is a basic human need in rural America. USDA Rural Development’s housing programs do more than provide a place for families to live. They stimulate economic activity through single-family home construction, rental assistance for those who need it, and funding for eligible very-low-income homeowners to enable them to keep their dwellings in good repair.”
Also kicking off Homeownership Month is the National Association of Home Builders who estimates that “every new single-family home built in America creates three new jobs and generates $90,000 in federal, state and local tax revenue, $145,000 in wage income and $86,000 in net business income,” according to a statement.
