Not having an office can be hard

As comforting as working from bed can be, the sheer productivity value of working alongside similarly-employed beings is undeniable; thankfully, a new coworking site is working to bring you and others like you together in a setting conducive to work in your area of expertise.

Launchable Labs — founded in 2013 and based in New York — provides the simple service of linking freelancers and physical office space. Their mission is “to improve the chances of entrepreneurs becoming successful via shared education, shared original content, and shared workspaces,” and it seems they’ve got the right angle with which to go about it.

Overcoming the isolation of freelance work

One of the fundamental differences between freelancers and commuters is the sense of community. I once worked with a guy who — despite a work-from-home software job that paid him a healthy six figures a year — insisted upon working twenty to thirty hours a week at a pool, making minimum wage as a lifeguard. His reasoning was simple: he felt that, though he made good money from his software work, a true job had a commuting aspect and a community of coworkers with whom one could collaborate.

He may have been completely nuts for willingly working such a taxing job, but there’s no denying a certain loneliness that accompanies freelancing (and the four or five cats that are bound to follow). Not only does Launchable Labs provide an easy fix for this gaping problem, it supplies resources and professionals that will both give you the community you desire and the opportunity to learn (or teach) skills not specific to your trade. With Launchable Labs, you can work the job you love and, at the same time, share your knowledge with like-minded peers.

Combining coworking and colearning

Coworking and colearning are the main components of Launchable Labs’ campaign, which means we’ll be seeing significant support for those two areas. The opportunity to learn, educate, and brainstorm with colleagues is invaluable, especially for the kind of people that freelancing attracts. Launchable Labs is more than a coworking site: it’s a veritable goldmine for people looking to network, build their knowledge base, and make a difference.

No news on Launchable Labs’ release date is available at the time of this writing, but an early access and updates regarding the launch are available on their site.
