Permits and construction

Good news today in the real estate industry- new home construction was up 40.9% in April 2010 over April 2009 according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Likely due to the expiration of the home buyer tax credit, permits for single family homes indicate future building and are down 10.7% in April compared to March, showing restraint in the new home construction sector as builder confidence continues to rise.

2010 is proving to be a more stable year for builders and despite a drop from March, building permits are up 15.9% from April 2009.

This April brought a rise in housing starts, up 10.2% from March as well as a jump in housing completions which are up 14.6% above March.
