Learning how to design
Whether you aspire to begin a new career in design, or brush up on your skills so you can maintain your own website, there are two startups you should be aware of that teach you how to do just that.
1. Designlab
Designlab is currently in beta, but you can try a lesson for free right now – they proclaim that they’ll start from step one, which means you won’t be completely in the dark if you’re just beginning your quest to learn these skills. Designlab will help you learn the design principles you need to make great web and mobile products, from visual design, to UI patterns, to UX.
“Put the books down!” this startup urges, noting that their method of teaching is through interactive lessons and hands-on projects “with powerful in-browser tools.”
Even though it appears at first glance that this fresh, new startup is focused on beginners (an often overlooked segment of the market), it would be helpful for those in the industry looking to brush up on modern tactics.
2. Bento
Alternatively, Bento pulls together lessons from all over the web, organized neatly by programming language.
The company proclaims they are “Everything you need to know about web development. Neatly packaged.” By curating lessons from around the internet, Bento has appealed to beginners who just need to quickly learn html, all the way up to industry insiders who already know css but need to get familiar with coldfusion, or maybe you need to learn how to make an app, make sense of your big data, or simply make your website more secure.
