This weekend, my friend and I are planning a #TreatYoself day that includes going for Swedish massages. Yesterday, this friend texted me saying how he cannot wait for the massage because his back has been bothering him from sitting at work.

It really may not be something we think about too often, but sitting for extended periods of time can be bad for our health. And it is easy to fall into this “sitting for hours” trap when we get into a work zone day after day.

Meet Curie

As we’ve learned time and time again, there is an app to fix that. Curie is a personal trainer for your sitting habits.

This tool creates exercises that are personalized for your health conditions and working environment.

“Curie is on the mission to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle while still having a sitting job. It’s your personal trainer at work. He tells you when to stand up and take a break and when to exercise, just coaching you to sit better. It’s not about sitting straight all day, but taking quick breaks and doing simple exercises,” according to developers.

Let Curie help you

Activating Curie at work implements a timer and series of exercises that get you moving while still working. The application works through a series of features that analyze your progress, set goals, provide simple and fast exercises, and remind you to stand up and take breaks.

It even makes sure you’re drinking enough water and exercising your eyes.

The website also goes into detail about the damaging effects sitting for too long can have on your body. Prolonged sitting has been linked to diabetes and heart disease, and can even be a cause of cancer.

Risky business

Other harms it can pose to your body include: foggy brain, strained neck, sore shoulders and back, over-productive pancreas, colon cancer, disc damage, weak abs, tight hips, and soft glutes. Curie aims to combat these risks by encouraging movement throughout your workday.

Curie is currently in beta and a waiting list is available to join. But don’t wait for Curie to fully launch before introducing more body movement while at work.
