ProBlogger shares with us the “9 Signs of an Effective Blog Post.” I know some would subtract or add to this (and I encourage opinions in the comments) but I find this to be dead on! Here are the 9 signs via images:
I’ve always had a hard time with Titles, then forget to “ask for action” I’m thinking if you did my graphics for me – I could probably just do without either 🙂 Cause, your graphics speak volumes!
I’m sorry I can’t comment. You have received your quota of compliments from me for the day – I will however be using this post as aprt of a social media class I’m teaching our managers on Tuesday!
😉
1. Why are you using images in a post?
2. Why is the #5 on the 6th sphere?
3. Why does Hillary look so smug in #6?
4. Why is that guy’s shirt too short?
5. Why are you so frikken awesome?
Blogs about blogging are as fun as vomiting because you smell vomit. Blogs about blogging with unrelated and useless stolen photos actually radiate odors of vomit through the intertubes.
@Chris – Agreed. Definitely one of my big things is knowing who your aiming for as your target audience. It sets up just about everything in how you communicate, and what you communicate. If you don’t know who it is – you end up with a general/all purpose type of post, that is unlikely to strike a passionate chord with anyone.
Mizzle – You know that you’re the only one counting spheres and Hillary always looks like that! 🙂
Lani – Ken called you a “Mistress” LOL, does that come with the hip-high black leather boots and a cyber-whip. We knew Benn was a lucky guy, but now we know exactly how lucky!
Since AG is a place of sharing and teaching, I love coming here to see useful posts with limited words that’s very cool even if #8 is WAY freaking me out and #6 persuades me not to vote! 🙂
VICKI- I don’t set the bar, I just get limber for limbo 🙂
PAULA- asking is difficult, especially in a soft sale environment like social media (aka blogging). In blogging, we typically ask for involvement in the comments so the conversation thrives. I try to invite people so everyone knows they are welcome to comment.
BILL- I hope you *do* utilize this. Although, you can ask my husband- there is no quota for stroking my ego, it’s a full time job.
SONNY- yes. yes, you must be. Go get rich… that will guarantee that you will acquire intelligence 😉
MARIANA- (1) because. (2) you have too much time, go get an additional job, k? (3) because she had no idea that O would get lucky or that her husband would shoot her in the foot. (4) because long shirts cost extra. (5) luna bars, white cheddar cheez-its and Jesus. (6) why did you question short shirt out of order??
KEN- wow, thanks! Which of those phrases should be my next tattoo?
DIMAKS- thank you. If only there was a way to create the visuals faster (oh, I know- I could lower my standards and arbitrarily choose creative commons images… nah)! Do you like this style?
YOUR MOM- mom, I’m not going to tell you again… put down the pipe, put your teeth back in, and go back to your room!! Jeez.
SUZIE- let me know if the style works on your own blog! I’ve gotten many emails today with great feedback on this article.
RUSSELL- now Russ… okay, I’m speechless, buddy.
ERIC- you said it for me, thank you. Someone go slap Russ.
CHRIS- absolutely. I think knowing your audience is something that should be done on a macro level before you start individual posts, but you’re right about knowing your audience. This very post would fail on some other blogs while it thrives here.
JENNIFER- passion is crucial, isn’t it? When local blogs find an audience passionate enough to stay engaged AFTER a transaction, THAT is what I consider the gold mine of success.
MATTHEW- easy, kitten. Don’t give people advance notice of my wardrobe, I’d hoped to shock people at Inman….
KEN- thank you, sincerely. I know I’m often silly, but this post is rich in amazing advice that is a surefire recipe for blogging success!

I think I’m too stupid/poor to read a post with so many images 😉

Nice. Really really nice, Lani. But I am now worried that maybe # 8 is the future Mrs. Russell Shaw.
