Google Announces Developers May Now Add Extensions to Gallery

google chrome allows extensionsIt was announced today that growingly popular web browser, Google Chrome will allow developers to build extensions and upload them into Google’s gallery of Chrome extensions prior to Chrome’s full launch (so the gallery is populated). Google also says that in most cases, developers don’t need the company’s approval to upload Chrome extensions.

Google Chrome extensions are like Firefox addons in that they add specialized functionality to a user’s browser experience and although some of the ubergeeks claim extensions may slow down the browser. Below is a very useful chart outlining the performance levels of the various browsers (click to enlarge)

“With Chrome finally getting the same extendability as Firefox it doesn’t quite ensure a bigger market share but it certainly opens a lot of doors for the young browser,” said web developer Trevor Wermund.
