Now you can shop online via Facebook
If you’ve been following stories about Facebook here on The American Genius, you’ve probably noticed that the social media site seems to be constantly expanding into new territory. Facebook is working on becoming your go-to event calendar, messenger, workplace networking platform, and even the world’s primary portal to the internet. Now, on select Pages, users can shop online via Facebook.

Facebook has launched test shops on a small number of Pages, including buy buttons that allow users to purchase products without leaving Facebook. The exact number of Pages with e-commerce shops is unknown, but is likely in the double digits. The shop section is placed on the Page’s toolbar directly below the “about” section for the page.
Brands could soon sell directly from their Page
This new feature will give businesses and opportunity to showcase and sell their products directly from their Facebook Page. Considering that many internet users search for their favorite retailers and products via Facebook, this is a great way to connect customers directly with the products they are ready to purchase.
According to Facebook’s product manager, Emma Rodgers, “With the shop section on the page, we’re now providing businesses with the ability to showcase their products directly on the page.” The shops will likely expand to more pages, and will include ever more buttons and features.
Said Rodgers, “we’ll continue to add incremental features and capabilities to pages because they are such an important part of the consumer experience on Facebook.” Right now most of the shops are listed on retailer pages, but Facebook may also allow public figures, sports teams, and nonprofit groups to have e-shops.
Better stay on top of this development
Small businesses should make a point to keep up with this development. If these e-shops are successful, the idea could expand such that any business with a Facebook page could begin to sell product directly through the site.
