Emphasizing homeownership, rallying the troops
Realtor.com has launched the “Building Hope Challenge,” and not only donating $50,000 to benefit BUiLD by Habitat for Humanity to support the dream of homeownership, but helping to raise awareness through a national challenge.
The BUiLD movement aims to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live and advances Habitat for Humanity’s mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. Realtor.com has long been a strong advocate of Habitat’s mission and is dedicated to making a difference in a deserving community.
While some people get involved in Habitat for Humanity by working on home-building sites, through BUiLD, volunteers can also participate via social media, purchase a BUiLD product, participate in a corporate-sponsored initiative, or spread the word to friends. During the Realtor.com Building Hope Challenge, participants will be able to nominate a state to receive a portion of the donation and, in doing so, be eligible for weekly prize drawings.
Participants simply enter their e-mail address and select their state of choice, then are able to share the promotion with friends online.
“Real estate is at the heart of a local community”
“We believe real estate is at the heart of a local community and the Building Hope Challenge will help revitalize a neighborhood in need of investment,” said Steve Berkowitz, chief executive officer of Realtor.com operator Move, Inc. “Realtor.com is an advocate for the great work Habitat for Humanity has done over the years in providing housing for many families worldwide and providing support on a community level.”
The state with the most nominations per capita at the end of the Challenge will win, and a rehabilitation project of a local Habitat for Humanity affiliate in that state will be chosen to receive the designated portion of the Realtor.com donation. Participants may also donate directly to Habitat for Humanity.
“We are pleased to partner with Realtor.com on the ‘Building Hope Challenge,’” said Lysa Ratliff, senior director of cause marketing and partner communications, Habitat for Humanity. “This effort helps us to improve communities in need while empowering people to support Habitat’s BUiLD movement through simple activities online.”
Realtor.com is also partnering with the nationwide real estate community to raise additional money for Habitat for Humanity. By participating in the Realtor.com Building Hope Challenge, agents and brokers are proving they support the basic need of shelter for all. Realtor.com and Move employees across the country will also take part in the Building Hope Challenge, and an employee winner will be chosen from company participants to receive an opportunity to spend a Move work-day volunteering for a local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
