Trulia takes on data accuracy

Trulia launches Trulia Data Connect, a new program aiming to improve accuracy in listings while “elevating broker brands,” and while marketing is important, the news is most relevant as the biggest real estate sites take different approaches to becoming more accurate, thus trustworthy and relevant in the eyes of the consumer.

Formerly, consumers would decry a real estate portal for listings that don’t exist or have old pricing, defaulting to sites like Realtor.com with direct MLS feeds, regardless of whether they liked the brand or design. Others simply didn’t know they were getting inaccurate information and blamed the real estate professionals on the other end of the phone, unleashing their wrath about a home that agent must be holing back from them and lying about.

In a statement the company says that they are partnering with MLSs to “offer value-added services for their brokers, adding that these benefits for brokers include “the latest, most accurate listing data available to homebuyers on Trulia, increased brand exposure with consumers, and valuable reporting and customer support resources.”

Updating data as often as every 10 minutes

“Accurate, complete and updated home listing data is important to everyone in the real estate process, from consumers to agents, brokers and MLSs” said Alon Chaver, VP of Industry Services at Trulia. “That’s why Trulia is investing heavily in partnerships with MLSs who wish to help their brokers improve the accuracy of the listings they market on Trulia. We are dedicated to empowering brokers to market their listings and their brands more effectively on Trulia’s popular platform.”

Trulia says the benefits include accuracy of data, with their data cycle updated “as often as every 10 minutes,” adding “prominent brand exposure,” and premium reporting and customer support for participating brokers.

Trulia Data Connect is the second program Trulia launched this summer, following Trulia Accelerate in July, which provides customized packages of products and services for real estate companies to accelerate the success of their agents.

The irony is that once launched on the heels of rhetoric surrounding displacement of the real estate professionals, the real estate search startup world has pivoted to focus on the breadwinners in real estate that pay the bills, focusing squarely on brokers and real estate agents as the branding battle continues.
