The San Francisco Cube House

John Maniscalco Architecture transformed a dilapidated 1895 Victorian home in San Francisco into the “Cube House” which is a gorgeous, modern work of art. The home had major challenges when undergoing its renovation – a historically protected façade, abnormally long building footprint, and zero lot-line configuration.

The challenges were overcome as the family of four lives in a home with a two-story atrium that opens up to the sky and brings the exterior into the center of the urban dwelling. The atrium is “the spatial organizing gesture, allowing all areas of the house to partake of the light, air, and landscape (both earth and sky) that this protected garden provides,” the architect said.
