Android app adds railroad crossings to search – Suburb Scout

Share

Last fall, we introduced you to Android App, Suburb Scout which empowered your buyers to use their Android to search for a listing’s nearby airports, landfills, power plants, prisons and sewage plants.

No Realtor wants to be thrown for a loop by hearing “I like the listing, but can you give me data on nearby [insert difficult to map nuisances like power plants here]?” just before the ink on a contract is dried. Buyers having this information in their hands helps them to make a good decision for themselves, and it’s helpful for agents to know the nitty gritty details that are requested from time to time.

SuburbScout adds railroad crossings

SuburbScout just announced that they have added 23,000 railroad crossings to their mapping app. We asked Scott Kersey, Suburb Scout designer, “What was the motivation behind mapping railroad crossings- safety, traffic, or noise?”

Kersey said, “It was definitely noise. Years ago, I rented a great apartment on a hillside, overlooking a highway. Unfortunately, on the other side of that highway was a set of train tracks running parallel to the interstate. Each night, as the trains would reach a crossing, we learned that every conductor has their own “signature” pattern for blowing the horn. It took me 4 months to learn how to sleep through an entire night.”
