No doubt you’re all sick of the way the uproar over Daniels little video has distracted us all from the important coverage of the Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy. So I’ll be brief.
I did leave comments as a rebuttal on the Bloodhound Blog post that claimed the video was in poor taste, but they remain locked in moderation after more than twenty four hours. I’m not 100% sure I’ve been blacklisted by Greg as the Sellsius Boys claim he does, but the Bloodhound Blog is currently the only blog (of hundreds I comment on) I am still experiencing issues of “being regarded as spam”.
My comment at BHB was brief. I don’t think Daniel was even attempting to be funny with this video. Greg claimed that it was unfunny. There is a world of difference between not trying to be funny, and being unfunny. As I said in my moderated comment, Greg’s argument about the video being unfunny is a straw man argument.
I thought the video was a good first attempt. The basic framework of the video is very strong though. Daniel runs The Real Estate Zebra, and zebras are colored black and white. When we say something is black and white, we mean that it is clear, simple or understandable. The video was filmed in black and white, and the entire presentation was short, sweet and to the point. All in all, it’s a neat little well themed package that has a ton of potential for becoming a great series.
That’s what I believe we all reacted to. Go Daniel, attaboy.
Now that being said, I believe Greg has done Daniel a tremendous favor. Suddenly a “hey that’s cool” 90 seconds of video that got some decent link love, is now on the fast track to becoming an iconic piece of the RE.net. I disagree with Greg on a multitude of points, but I’ll certainly tip my hat to his ability to polarize a debate and cause a scene. (cf Mary McKnights classic PLAN A BLOG WAR for increased traffic)
Daniels Black and White video would likely be largely forgotten within 72 hours like 99.9% of all posts are, but now it will likely endure. Whether Greg intended this effect or not, I can’t really say. However, regardless of the content of his post, he is ipso facto the greatest supporter of Daniels video.
And for that I thank him.

Well put Athol. Thanks for summing up a lot of what has been floating around in my head. I guess there’s no need for my “Zebra’s Real Estate Porn and the Master Link-Baiters” post anymore. Thank god!

Athol – I was having technological difficulties, but I am better now and am back up on top. Er, I mean, um, nevermind.

A little insider tip on Greg Swann’s method of blacklisting. He delays posting your comment until the post leaves the first page. Then he posts it. If you continue to disagree with him, you are blacklisted. (I was the one who ticked him off but he banned Rudy as well). What;s interesting is he blacklists you from contributors’ posts as well. Quite a role model blogger that fellow.

I agree with Mary McKnight’s Blog War tactics as it can definitely prove useful. Whether or not Grge employed that tactic, I don’t know, and frankly don’t really worry about it.

The RE.net can be vicious!
The video, however, was nothing short of a hit.
