Inside The American Genius Team: Jack Lloyd

Jack Lloyd is one of our youngest reporters, and you know him for his tech coverage, but do you know he’s a coffee addict and competitive swimmer?

JACK-LLOYD

About Jack Lloyd

Staff Writer, Jack Lloyd’s reporting is always insightful, meaningful, and engaging. We all look forward to his take on topics from drone technologies to the latest app to what it takes to go viral, but did you know that he’s a world-class competitive swimmer or that he might be the reincarnation of Hemingway (minus the four wives and ambulance driving)?

We interviewed Jack to share with you more of his inner workings – see what you both have in common!

Hometown / Where You Live Now

Portland / Newberg

What you miss most about your hometown

The coffee culture. No such thing as bad coffee in Portland.

Current favorite album to play while working

Echoes of Silence by The Weeknd. It’s the perfect combination of ambiance, upbeat, melodic, and calming. Plus, I love The Weeknd!

What’s your favorite productivity trick?

I like to sit down at a desk with a comfy chair, one soft light (the rest of the room is dark), a cup of coffee (or a glass of Scotch, depending on the hour), and just write. I can go hours like that. It’s nice to fit the “romantic” portion of the writer image.

Tell us about your technologies

I have a PC and an iPhone 5.

What app has made the biggest impact in your work life?

Gmail is by far the best productivity tool I’ve encountered. It has facilitated my own personal business far more efficiently than anything else I can name.

What’s your favorite Pantone color these days?

pantone-purple

Favorite story you’ve ever written on AG?

This one, just because of how friggin’ cool the Obi Worldphone is!

Post-work drink of choice

Coffee. I’m a hopeless addict.

Favorite place to shop offline / Favorite place to shop online

As far as offline, I like Safeway. It’s small, has all the things I need, and I can get in and get out in ten minutes. Online? Amazon has my heart. The combination of Prime and my love of Xbox 360 games makes it a veritable heaven.

If you could eat dinner with any author, dead or alive, who would it be?

Ernest Hemingway. He strikes me as a sassy, sarcastic asshole, so I’m sure we’d have a lot to talk about.

When not working, what’s your hobby?

General writing, coupled with extensive video game playing.

If you could choose, what would your final meal be?

Steak and potatoes.

What is your most cherished memory?

2nd place in the 100 freestyle at NWC Conference last year.
