Is prostitution a problem in the real estate business?

Pros·ti·tu·tion

NOUN: One who sells one’s abilities and talents for money, while faking interest, passion and sincerity.

Do you fake it for money?

We all do it.  We fake it. From time to time we have to. No worries. That’s not what I’m talking about. What about faking it all the time? All the time as in, you’re in it for the money-honey.

You don’t really like or enjoy the business.  You don’t really respect your colleagues. You’re not keen on mastery, you’re keen on what ever works. Your purpose is profit alone, it’s business, not personal. Do you fake it like that?   All the time?

Here’s why I ask…

In your quest for success, if you feel like you’re making the right sounds and doing the right things, with the right people, but you feel stymied or your flailing, it could be because you’re in it for the money-honey.  You don’t love the business. You’re going through the motions, but not the emotions, and everyone you’re chasing senses it.

The thing is, we’re all attracted to true love. In the long run, if you’re loveless, you become soulless, then you become stymied and flail.

True Love Is Tough Love

Here’s what I believe:

  1. To experience balanced success, personally, financially and professionally, you have to fall in love with the business.
  2. When you sleep-walk through the motions, without the emotions, you may succeed in on one area of success, but you’ll feel empty or resentful in others.
  3. When times are tough, if you want to experience inner-strengh, hope and optimism, deep down, you have to love the business.
  4. If you love the business you’ll be equipped to sustain a “they can bend me in half, beat me down, humble and tumble me, but they can’t break me” survival mindset, and you will.
  5. If you discover you don’t love the business, you should get out of the business.  In the long run, it’s better for you and everyone else. There no shame in moving on.  New adventures await.

Either way, in or out, I wish you speed and grace.

PS:  If you haven’t read this piece by Chris Johnson, as your pal, I implore you to read it now.  I wish I had written it.

PSS:  Also, if you haven’t seen this fascinating Daniel Pink video, I hope you’ll watch it. You’ll find startling revelations about motivation, purpose, mastery and compensation.  As a bonus, it’s a spectacular example of Showing and Telling. It reminds me, including visuals (the showing) in the telling, transforms the mundane into magic.

Cheers and thanks for reading.
