Why you might care who your MVF is
Sometimes determining your Twitter influence isn’t solely about the number of followers you have. To be a tad brutally honest, not all Twitter followers are created equal. There are countless spammers and those who haven’t actively used the site for quite a while. And we all know how fickle some Twitter users can be—within several minutes they’ve followed you and then have decided to reverse that decision. So, if sheer numbers don’t determine how influential someone is are on Twitter, what does?
A new app called MVF, which stands for Most Valuable Follower, determines your Twitter influence based off of the followers of your followers. MVF will analyze your followers and their followers and determine who your most valuable follower really is, and then name your second through fifth MVFs. Once you have this information, the app allows you to opt into sending a congratulatory tweet to those people to let them know of their influence.
Applying MVF to your business
So, what does all this really mean and how can you apply this app to your business? Basically, if you can get your top followers to retweet something of yours or to even tweet about you, your influence and web traffic has the potential to increase. With this in mind, there are two basic ways to get those valuable tweets and retweets.
Number one – Share content that is actually worthy of being passed around. The same ol’ drivel that everyone else in your industry is posting just won’t work. Get creative and come up with something new, something innovative, something that makes people laugh or think or reevaluate their current business beliefs. Whatever it is, make it spectacular. Twitter is a way for you to connect with those you influence and vice versa. So, make that connection worthwhile. The MVF app will allow you to see your “true” influence, so make the most of it by creating unique content.
Number two – Reward your MVFs. Create a Twitter campaign that rewards your MVFs with small gifts, gift cards, or your company’s services for free. Reward those who retweet and those who create new tweets to send to their own followers. A little encouragement – and the fact that people love free stuff – can go a long way in using Twitter and the MVF app to your advantage by rewarding your biggest fans and increasing and expanding your brand’s professional reach.
While MVF is a nice little app to use for fun, it does have some professional benefits to consider. However, the professional benefits require you to do the work. MVF has just provided the data you need to reach out to potential Twitter followers, clients or customers, and your product’s users, and now you can put that valuable information to good use.
