LinkedUp is like Tinder for modern workaholics

(Social Media) LinkedUp has launched to help match busy professionals with each other, perhaps even working as a Tinder-like app for workaholics.

Balancing work and dating

When you are actively engaged in your career, trying to make a name for yourself, and climbing the rungs of the ladder, dating can be difficult, if not impossible. There are several dating apps on the market, but so many times you find yourself in an app flooded with people you just cannot relate too. Everyone has different dreams, goals, and ambitions, but what if you could see someone’s resume before you started chatting. Would this give you more insight in to who they are?

This is exactly what the new app LinkedUp hopes to do. It pulls information from your LinkedIn account to create your dating profile. iOS users can filter matches by job, industry, age, proximity, and gender. Much like other apps, if you find a mutual attraction, you will be encouraged to communicate.

How is this app different than popular Facebook-based dating apps? Founder of the app and former investment banker, Max Fischer, told the Wall Street Journal, he think the app “is going to result in much higher-quality matches.” Since LinkedIn gives you an insight into a person’s professional history and career path, “people get a really true sense of where someone’s from, what they do, and where they went to school, which are the main questions people ask in terms of dating.”

While I can certainly see the benefits of this app, I can also see the downside. Frequently, business professionals in similar industries have mutual contacts, and if a relationship, or romantic meeting goes awry, it could impact your professional life as well as your personal life. I personally like to keep the two separate, but for some people it may not be an issue. Perhaps it is just me, but doesn’t this take a bit of the fun out of getting to know someone? If you already know everything about them, where is the excitement in getting to know one another?

Please note: LinkedUp is in no way affiliated with LinkedIn, even though the app design mimics the LinkedIn style.
