How to get branded shortened URLs like the big brands

(MARKETING NEWS) Branded links (shortened URLs) can increase trust, and raise link clicks by up to 34 percent – this Chrome extension makes it easy to get your own.

Shorter is better

Gone could be the days of typing out long, complicated URLs or randomized shortened ones. Instead, Rebrandly allows users to create unlimited, branded links, something previously was limited to just big name brands.

Rebrandly falls somewhere between a link-shortener (like Bit.ly or Goo.gl) and a custom domain retailer (like GoDaddy or Name.com). Digital marketers, social media managers, and brand and marketing agencies around the world are taking note of the easy-to-use interface that offers thousands of short URLs for purchase.

Why a shortened URL?

Prices for these short, unclaimed domains are usually less than $10, and Rebrandly is a one-stop-shop that saves you the effort of needing to set up an account with a third-party domain registrar.

Aside the common .com, .net, or .org, you can select from extensions such as .deal, .link, .click, .xyz, .cool, allowing for creativity and the ability to find your perfect, clever URL.

The benefits of these shortened links are clear – they’re more trackable and sharable, increase link trust, grow brand awareness, and maybe most importantly, they’re easy to pronounce. Founder Davide De Guz said in a press release that branded links can increase trust and raise link clicks by up to 34 percent.

The cool factor

Before Rebrandly, customized shortened URLs were exclusively used by big, international brands. Nike, for example, shortens their links to swoo.sh and The New York Times to nyti.ms. The shortened links are not only easier to share, but also give a sense of polish to a shared link. One of the biggest selling points of the Irish start-up is that it opens up the door to cool URLs to everyone, meaning your own personal resume, an e-vite, or your favorite online video could be reached with a clever link.

It shouldn’t go unmentioned that Rebrandly has also gathered quite the following major companies, though. Dropbox, Microsoft, and Time Warner are just a few major brands opting to use Rebrandly to get set up with cool and catchy URLs.

Before it’s too late

Eventually, desired short links may be swept up and you’ll be back to unpronounceable options, but for now Rebrandly is a big improvement on the existing link-shortening market. With an easy to use Chrome plug-in that easily integrates with Bit.ly and other services, there is no reason not to grab a few shortened URLs.
