Logo design trends for 2014

You may love your logo, but is it dated? Is it time for a refresh? Maybe you’re in the market for a new logo for a new brand, and the timing is perfect, because design trends have become sleek and sophisticated, and the cheesiness and lazy designs are out.

For the 11th year in a row, Logo Lounge has published their annual logo design trend report, and they’ve highlighted the top trends, from vintage to futuristic and everything in between.

Logo Lounge notes that, “If home is our first place, and work is our second place, then mobile screens have definitely become our third place. Smart phone use has increased from 21 percent in 2010 to more than 63 percent today, and with 83 percent of all Americans online regularly, that percentage of mobile users is bound to keep edging up.”

They report that many of the trends this year are developed to take this into account, designing logos around the idea that they must be scaled, and the “harsh requisites” have been met in other ways, particularly the emergence of “Hand Type” solutions, brighter colors, flat designs, and long shadows.

None of these trends have been unseen in the past, but the combinations emerging are beautiful and clean, and designs are leaning towards minimalism while becoming more complex – it’s fascinating, really.

Connecting with consumers and invoking emotions from trust to enthusiasm can be done effectively through quality logo design, and it sets the tone for an entire brand, making it the cornerstone of any sized company.
