Happy fourth birthday, NAGLREP!
Today is the four year anniversary of the National Association of Gay and Lesbian Real Estate Professionals (NAGLREP), founded in 2007 with a mission of advocacy. In a short period, the organization has 400 members, over 40 chapters in 25 states and has even grown to Nicaragua, Mexico, Canada and Costa Rica. The organization works closely with the National Association of Realtors (NAR) Diversity group and actively outreaches to diverse communities.
NAGLREP is to thank for their key advocacy achievement of working with NAR to change the Realtor Code of Ethics, particularly Article 10 which includes sexual orientation as a protected class. The organization is still working with the NAR to have sexual orientation redefined to include gender identity to the NAR Code of Ethics as a protected class, independent of what Fair Housing laws indicate.
We are proud of the advancements NAGLREP has made in such a short time in existence, making major progress immediately. AGBeat supports NAGLREP as we believe housing and a healthy work environment are human rights, not an option to brush off. Thank you for the leadership at NAGLREP that has worked so hard to grow the organization; we anticipate 2012 to be a good year for the association’s growth. Happy fourth birthday, NAGLREP, we look up to you!
