Realtors, good news about smartphone use – consumers want you there

Smartphone user behavior

Google has announced partial findings to their “Mobile Movement: Understanding Smartphone Users” as shown above. As marketers, it is important to understand the use of smartphones as a device to avoid spending money on apps or campaigns that won’t work.

Not surprisingly, the report revealed that 72% of people use their smartphones wile consuming other media, and 79% use their phones to help with shopping. Google cites price comparisons, and we would take the leap to believe that real estate despite not being retail involves smartphone use at high rates.

One key finding that struck our attention is that 88% of those who look for local information on their smartphones take action within 24 hours which is good news for listing agents putting effort into mobile apps or more importantly, making sure they are branded appropriately and completely on the most used real estate search sites.

The majority of consumers are using smartphones to facilitate purchase decisions which includes real estate. They want that, so in essence, they want the real estate professional (or more importantly, accurate listing data) to be there inside their smartphones.

Bonus: nearly 2 in 5 people in America use the internet from the bathroom.
