First music and movies, now people
Filter Squad, a self-described “little startup from Australia” has experienced wild success with the launch of their apps Discovr Music, Discovr Apps and Discovr Movies with over two million downloads collectively. Their apps focus on surfacing quality matches to your searches, today launching Discovr People in iTunes to help you discover interesting people to follow on Twitter.
Discovr People helps you explore Twitter by offering an interactive map of everyone on Twitter – the company says that you can literally navigate through the entire Twitter ecosystem to discover new people to follow. Discovr People lets you visually dive in to how people are connected on Twitter.
The app allows you to see profiles and tweets of other users, but more importantly connections. You can browse through featured lists, your own lists or Top Twitter lists, and easily save people you discover to your own lists.
Discovr People is a universal app for iPhone and iPad and is retina ready for the iPad 3, all that is required is iOS 5 and a Twitter account. The first step is to type in the name of a person or their Twitter handle, and the system maps similar users and shows connections to that person based on their recent Twitter conversations.
Click on any user and the map grows to reveal other similar users – double click on anyone to get their profile, tweets, mentions, connections and more. Single tap anyone on the map to see other similar people.
This app is fascinating in that it helps illuminate similarities between users, and while the visual demonstration above uses celebrities, it is advisable to focus on users like yourself. As a business professional, this could be a great tool to investigate your best clients and see who is similar to them in an effort to expand your reach.
