“People Talking About This” tool
Facebook has announced a new tool called Page Insights which is being dubbed a new metric for “People Talking About This” on all Facebook Pages. The tool is for all Facebook Pages including small businesses, politicians, major brands, musicians and the like, the metrics for every Page will be added underneath “Likes” and will show what conversations are happening around the brand or business Page. The company says this helps marketers understand how to “make their content more engaging and shareable, which increases the reach of their messages on Facebook.”
In turn, the “People Talking About This” feature shows users what the hot topics are, giving them an idea of what is relevant at any given time. Users can see how Facebook posts that they put on their own page reach others on Facebook, beyond their own fans. The tool shows total likes, number of Friends of Fans of a Page, a weekly total reach of a page and more. Facebook says this will help Page owners to optimize content for their posts and see what is the most effective.
Premium ad unit to launch
According to Facebook, friends of fans represent an average set of consumers 34 times larger than just fans which his why they are announcing a new Premium ad unit that allows brands to promote page posts to anyone on Facebook, not just their fans so that “Sponsored” updates will enter all users’ streams as if they were fanned by that person as shown below:
“When the person viewing this brand’s ad has friends connected to this brand’s Page, Facebook will expand the unit to include a line above that shares which friends like the Page,” an email from Facebook said. “Adding how friends engage give the ad social context, which research has shown increases ad recall. Together, brands will be able to measure their success and enhance their strategies with the combination of Page Insights and this new Premium ad unit.”
