There’s been speculation over the past few days about what may come out of the NAR Convention next month in terms of “blogging compliance.” I always though compliance was the purview of the state legislatures and Congress but by bringing pressure to bear on the brokerages, perhaps NAR can change the face of real estate blogging.
I could fight the wave but why try? It’s a fight we can’t possibly win. If NAR or my broker want me to shut down my blog, I guess I’ll have no choice but to do so.
So to all my readers ….

“Wait a minute! That’s … That’s Degeneration X’s music! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, I DON’T BELIEVE IT! HERE COMES DEGENERATION X!”
(Yup, that was easier to find than the Police Academy info the other night.)

They’ll have to pry my blog from my cold dead fingers.
If the NAR comes down with some sort of stoopid mandate, “compliance” or whatever term they want to use…. well good freaking luck. I say bring it!

I’m with Jay. I’d rather die on my feet than blog on my knees.

Well seeing nothing has happened yet, I think this is all a storm in a teacup. NAR has been pushing blogging as cutting edge realty for a couple years now. Admittedly the NAR version is about as deadly as a butter knife, but there we go.
Secondly, I think NAR is just smart enough to know that this would cause an enormous backlash from the re.net. The pen is mightier than the sword, and to be blunt…
…we outnumber NAR.

J. I deleted an empty comment box from you, no idea what happened there…
Jay, I have a feeling it will be us ripping our rights out of the cold dead hands of nar.

How can they tell us what to do and not to do with our own business. When did blogging become an ethics issue that needs to be monitored more than any other form of advertising? Seems like there are already laws in place for that.

There are already guidelines to follow in our advertising. Those rules convey to blogging. Why would they need blogging compliance in addition?
Why not just go after those not in compliance? They’d be throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Speaking of compliance, how in the www would they regulate the enormous number of blogs out there? Would they just ban them outright?
Sorry, I have more question than comment. I just dont’ get it.

Hell if I know … they can’t even find a way to shut down 99% of the blogs with REALTOR in the title. Benn was one of the lucky few.

well, that’s easy- rock the boat as I did and you make yourself a sitting target. The list of ‘out of step’ blogs is a short list in my opinion.
