Social media can get the best of any of us
College is a unique time in a person’s life where they are able to sample the freedom of adulthood. It is not surprising that, during this time, young adults will make questionable decisions within their newfound freedom. While this is something that has been the case for generations, poor decisions are hurting the current generation the most due to the watchful eye of social media.
It is a common occurrence for students to post photos and updates of their college life on social media outlets such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Status updates sometimes tend to include evidence of the student partaking in extracurricular activities, such as parties.
Having photos that include images of alcohol or drugs may pose an issue come graduation time when students are on the job hunt and potential employers are reviewing their online personas.
Social Sweepster helps you keep it clean
Going through every post and every photo to make sure you look like an upstanding applicant is a tedious project. So how can you make sure that your past does not come up to haunt you during a career search? Enter Social Sweepster. This tool is designed to look through your social media profiles in order to flag content that may be off-putting to employers. Through use of language and image recognition, Social Sweepster is able to sift through your posts and present photos or statuses that you may want to delete.
By visiting their website, you can create an account that will link to your social media world. You can then select the type of sweep you would like to try. Users are allowed one free sweep that will look through their Facebook to find profane or offensive language as well as drug-related text. The free sweep will then give you the option of flagging, deleting, or untagging the unsavory content.
Free versus paid accounts
The site will begin to charge for each additional sweep, with each scan costing $5 for a full sweep. The full sweep, or premium option, will detect inappropriate photos with image recognition and will give you the option to bulk delete these questionable photos and posts. However there is an option available to backup all deleted photos to Dropbox.
Full sweep options also come in bulk with three scans for $12 and five scans for $15. Unfortunately the site only offers scans of Facebook and Twitter as of now, so any elimination of offensive content on Instagram, Tumblr, or other social media sites will need to be done manually. Social Sweepster is a helpful tool for those looking to eliminate moments that may have been funny in the past but could be harmful to your future.
