Email use is rapidly changing
Although Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and the like are rapidly rising in prominence as marketing tools, email still rules the roost and the number of email users is expected to be at 3.8 billion by 2014, up from 2.9 billion in 2010, meaning more than half of the globe will be actively using email within three years, significant given the continuing lack of internet availability in so many parts of the world.
The infographic below outlines email marketing trends as a sample of what American email trends have emerged in the last year. Litmus.com is an email marketing company and they have tracked trends on all emails through their system, so it is not a complete view of email, but the trends are supported by other recent studies, especially when noting that Outlook still reigns but is on the decline, and the fact that the Google Chrome browser is rising in popularity rapidly.
