Create mockups on the fly
Heads up all you tech startups: here’s a quick and easy way to create mockups, demo videos, and marketing materials for that fancy new app you’re about to roll out.
Placeit offers hundreds of templates or “stages” showing photographs and videos of people using digital devices such as iPhones, Android, laptops, desktops, tablets, and Kindle. You upload recordings of your app, Placeit integrates your imagery into the template, and voila! You have a professional looking photograph or video of a model using your app, which can be downloaded in mp4 format.
The templates include people of different genders, ages, and races in a variety of backgrounds from casual to creative, natural or workplace settings. There are images of people using their devices at restaurants, at the office, at the gym, or while cooking or shopping. You can find a character and a location that thematically matches your app. They’ll even take requests for new templates if you can’t find one in their library that fits your product.
There are a few different ways to use Placeit
You can make a recording of yourself using your app, upload a screenshot, a still image, or simply type in your site’s URL and Placeit will edit it into a video or photograph. Placeit’s newest technology can even interpret your app so that the final video can show a hand accurately tapping and swiping your app precisely how it would be used in real life.
Completed images can be downloaded for free, which is great if you want to show a mockup to your coworkers or investors. But if you’re going to use the image or video for marketing, you’ll probably want to consider purchasing a license to use the image. If you plan to use Placeit more than once a month, it’s probably a good idea to invest in a subscription, which will save you money over buying each image individually.
What it will cost you
A “Comp” subscription, at $12 per month, gives you unlimited image downloads, but each image will contain a small watermark. A Casual subscription is $29 per month, and gives you nine high resolution images without watermarks, a discount on video downloads, and all of your unused downloads rollover to the next month. A Pro subscription gives you 31 high resolution images, and a Video subscription, at $199 per month, is a great package if you want videos as well as still images. If you want multiple images but don’t want a subscription, you can also buy bundles of images for a discounted rate.
Placeit seems a lot cheaper and easier than hiring a photographer and a model to make your own marketing materials, and while it won’t look unique, it’s a great DIY option. Just choose a template, upload your screenshots, and Placeit takes care of the rest.
