OtherInbox acquired by Return Path to make email tolerable

Return Path’s winning acquisition

Austin-based startup, OtherInbox, launched in 2008 and has pioneered the reduction of unwanted email, announced today that they have been acquired by Return Path which scores and certifies email senders and is recognized as the leading email certification and reputation monitoring company with over 2500 customers with their certification program covering over 2 billion inboxes, while OtherInbox has already surpassed 2 million users. Terms of the deal were undisclosed, but it is being reported that ReturnPath will double the size of their team in Austin this year and move to new offices, strengthening their presence in the city.

OtherInbox Founder and CEO, Joshua Baer told AGBeat, “Joining Return Path is a big win for our users, our employees, for me and for Austin. Our users get to keep using our products for free with more programmers to build new features. Our employees join a rocket-ship company that is nationally recognized as one of the best places to work. I get to join an amazing executive team and continue to operate independently as CEO. And Austin gets another great company investing its attention and resources into our community.”

Baer not only invested in the first Angel round of OtherInbox in 2008, but again in the Series A round in 2009 ($2.3 million total), becoming a 500 Startups company in 2010 and prior to being acquired raising nearly $4 million.

OtherInbox revolutionized unwanted email years ago with free features that aim to improve productivity and avoid email overload. Free features will remain free and will run in conjunction with Return Path’s Sender Score reputation scoring system for blocking and filtering email, both making the unavoidable business task of email far more tolerable.
