Twitpic’s new offering
We’ve watched Twitpic go from a tiny startup by a single young guy in Oklahoma when we uploaded our first pictures (which were among the first 10 uploaded ever!), to quite an impressive company that has been bought by Twitter and now used as their official picture feature.
Twitpic’s most recent update includes the ability to tag pictures of users with their Twitter name, just as you can do in Facebook. For me personally, because I organize and attend a lot of events, this is a timesaver for post-event wrapup and photo uploading, especially because most of the events surround Twitter, not Facebook (which is currently where pictures go due to this very tagging feature).
Here is what the tagging feature looks like
This picture is from last month’s #BATHH (big ass twitter happy hour) that I throw every month, and the picture is uploaded to Facebook, but I had no reason to upload it to Twitpic until now. What I would like Twitpic to offer next is also Facebook-like, but I’d like to be able to see all pictures that a specific user is tagged in, or even that I’m tagged in, or to see a search feature that offers a slideshow for similar results.
The following images appear similar, but they are each different, so look closely and click on any of them to enlarge for details.
Below is the uploaded image and you can see underneath the picture the “add/edit faces” link.
Then, you’ll be able to enter each person’s name and Twitter name. Then, you can opt in or opt out of sending an “@” reply to that user notifying them that they’re tagged. We recommend @ messaging them just like Facebook does automatically. I am not clear as to whether or not users can untag themselves yet.
After you’ve clicked “done tagging,” a link with their name will appear below the image (which you can remove at any time):
After you’ve completed the process, a tweet will go out like so:
I’m very excited about this new option, making Twitter’s photo feature much more robust. What do you think about the new tagging feature?
