Get real: networking is not fun

Do you hate stuffy networking events where everyone’s blurting out redundant intros in hopes of making a lasting impression? Missing out on the opportunity to engage in one-on-one conversation? Most networking events remind me of my speed dating experiences: rushed and completely awkward.

But how else would we network? LinkedIn has done a wonderful job, as well as other websites that connect professional networks, but these don’t really promote the importance of face to face networking. Which is why Smartcasual, a new app whose sole purpose is to promote in person networking, is a brilliant idea.

Smartcasual brings home the bacon

This cool new app puts professional opportunity and growth right at your fingertips by allowing you to be proactive with growing your network instead of waiting around for the next event or next connection on Linkedin.

Comparable to a very basic dating app, this application allows users to browse professionals that are near them and view their availability.

In addition to their availability is a description of their professional background, and what they intend on achieving by networking. So if you find someone who works at the company you’ve been trying to get an investment from, or you simply want to exchange ideas with someone in the same industry, you’ll be able to find them and initiate a meeting.

Similarly, you can open up your own available time slots so people can find you and request a meeting with you.

And that’s it, networking made easy.

Oh, the places you’ll go!

Imagine the possibilities from this app, especially for your business. You may find an insider to a company you’ve been contacting for a while, you could meet someone who has run a similar business longer and can give sound advice, or even a business partner.

Not only can you receive help, but you can give help to others as well, passing along your own knowledge and network.

Even better, it’s free for users, and has very little risk; pay nothing, see how you like it, and decide. It’s only available for Apple products now, but an Android version is set to release soon. So, whatever your professional goals, Smartcasual is an awesome community tool to use as leverage building your professional network and opportunities. Head to the app store to check it out.
