Because making friends as an adult is hard
Ladies you know that wine tasting you really wanted to go to, but had no compatible sidekick to go with? Your work friend doesn’t like wine, your sister in-law has too many kids to make it out of the house, and your cousin simply never learned how to handle herself, or her alcohol in public.
So what do you do?
If you’re like me, you grab a large bottle of wine, and watch Law and Order Re-Runs, with your phone on mute; that way you don’t have to talk to the same friends who’ve proven worthless when it comes to fun. But what happens when there are no more reruns? No more wine, and you are going insane from boredom? Sko There is your answer. Similar to a dating app, this new “women-only” app, claims to help females find like-minded friends in the area, so you don’t get desperate and start searching for friends in weird places like your neighborhood pub.
Let’s Sko There
Sko There, the first app of its kind, was created by Kendra Ratliff, and intended to give woman a platform where they could be themselves and enjoy adventures with other similar minded females. It’s a free, location based app, and solves the issues of making new friends, so no matter where you are, it’s easy to meet someone that you wouldn’t have met otherwise.
Set up your profile, suggest your outing, and you’re off
Interested users must first create a profile, including their name, age, location, and status update; because you are looking for friends to hangout with, its suggested that a status actually pertain to hanging out, such as, “Anyone want to join me for wine tasting night?” (save the emotional status updates for Facebook).
Once setup, you are given the option of searching other members by username, location or favorites. If another woman has the same appreciation for a perfectly aged red wine as much as you do, she’ll have the chance to use the handy message function and inquire about joining you to the tasting.
No boys allowed
Overall, I think this is a cool and innovative idea, but I have to say it seemed a little unorthodox at first; so I was obviously considering all of the unorthodox ways, an app like this could go wrong. My most immediate thought was how Sko There fights off the shamelessly persistent men eager to infiltrate a “women only” movement, and lurk on women online.
However, I found out they they have that covered, and enforce strict security by checking everyone’s social accounts, and information before approving a profile; adding extra time, but also necessary safety from creeps.
This particular security feature is just one amongst the other cool features they offer, that make finding friends easier than before.
Yay friends!
So, if you’re tired of being stood up or publicly humiliated by your girlfriends, let them find you some new one’s. With Sko There you’ll conveniently find other women located close to you, and have the opportunity to go on adventures you’re friends couldn’t possibly appreciate!
