Bing Social launches and your social networking is more relevant

Twitter updates aggregated, what’s next?

Last fall, search engine Bing.com launched a search dedicated to Twitter that allowed users to see search results broken down by live tweets, shared links and more which is much more helpful than the traditional Twitter search which simply shows the most recent tweets.

Today, Bing announced they will do the same with Facebook updates, fan page updates and shared links, and they’ll be featured together in one place, bing.com/social which should be live any minute now.

With Facebook privacy being on the forefront of many users’ minds, Bing.com assures users that only updates that are set to be shared with “everyone” will be aggregated (given that they are public domain).

Bing’s plans for the future

Bing will also be launching a new homepage for the Bing Social page with “improved trending topics derived from both Twitter and Facebook data.” Bing says that “for each trending topic, we also show information about why it’s trending, a snippet of results from our social corpus, followed by query refiners on the bottom.”

Bing intends on their Bing Social vertical to be improved over time and continues to make moves to be stiff competition with Google which is always good.

Given the rise in aggregation of public status updates, it is easy to see the value in using social networks professionally. It’s no longer just blogging that gets you found on Google and Bing, it’s your Facebook and Twitter efforts capturing leads now as well… I have to recall three years ago, the short sighted people telling us that Twitter and Facebook are a waste of time. Ah, how times have changed!

Very cool features indeed. Better be careful with Facebook though considering all the privacy issues that it is facing these days…and whoever said Twitter and Facebook are a waste of time must be living under a rock now…

I’ve kinda avoided Bing for fear of overtasking myself and my daily routine – guess I’ll have to change my time management!
