Two weeks notice
In case anyone has been living under a rock recently, two weeks from now we will be electing a new President of the United States. And this has to be one of the most debated and talked about elections in history.
Since this particular election is so polarizing, it can be difficult to know exactly where you stand. While I know what party I affiliate with, I don’t know how closely I connect with my chosen candidate on every single issue.
Match game
iSideWith offers a comprehensive look at how your stances match up with each candidate that goes beyond most online quizzes. The site uses a candidate match algorithm based on your responses and even gauges how you rank issue importance. The website is designed to pose thought provoking questions about where an individual stands on issues regarding: social, environmental, economic, domestic policy, healthcare, electoral, education, foreign policy, criminal, immigration, and science.
Each issue section offers three questions initially, all of which can be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”, but there is an “other stances” clickable that expands for more detailed responses. While you can answer just the three questions each section poses, you have the option for additional questions that will lead to a more in-depth analysis of where you side.
Where you stand
Once all of the questions are answered, your results are generated and it gives you a detailed explanation of where you stand with each candidate. The first section breaks down how closely you connect with the candidates by giving a percentage, as well as what issues you both agree on.
The issues are broken down even more in the next section as it details the issues and the candidates. There are also visual results provided with graphs for party results, how voters rate the candidates, where an individual falls on an ideology chart, and political themes (i.e. globalization vs. protectionism, collectivism vs. individualism, small government vs. big government).
Whatever the result, vote!
After taking a quiz using iSideWith, I had a much clearer view of how I connect with different candidates. This website offers a clear and concise view of how your ideologies relate with current politics. For me, it offered reassurance that I’m supporting the candidate the matches the closest with my preferences.
Regardless of your results or where you stand, remember how important it is to vote on November 8th. Everyone’s voice and opinions are valued on this day and we all deserve a say in who is leading our government.
