Top 10 videos viewed on YouTube in 2011

The rise of web video

We recently reported that in October alone, 200 billion web videos were viewed online with YouTube remaining the top destination with nearly half of all video views occurring on their site. Businesses are desperately trying to incorporate web video into their marketing tool belt while consumers are proving their willingness to watch all types of web video from commercials to cat videos.

Web video views are on the rise, as are how frequently consumers share videos. We recently reported that Unruly Media has compiled an interactive graphic featuring the top most shared web videos of recent years with YouTube’s number 9 most viewed video of the year coincides with the current number one most shared video ad of the past five years.

Above is YouTube’s annual wrapup, below are each of the videos with the most views, ending in number one. Currently, the wrapup video has three times more “dislike” votes by YouTube voters than “likes,” but the web video company simply shared the videos with the most views, subjectively posted.

Tell us in the comments if there are any videos in the top 10 that you have not seen.

(Number 7 and number 3 are both produced by Lonely Island who has disabled embedding of their videos, but they can be seen on their YouTube page.)
